NAHMA is the voice of the affordable housing management industry, advocating for adequate supply to meet the growing need for multifamily affordable residential housing by bringing nationwide attention to the preservation of decent and safe housing. NAHMA’s advocacy work directly relates to federal legislative and regulatory activities that impact the affordable multifamily housing industry.

The promotion of professional standards is a cornerstone of NAHMA activities. NAHMA offers several professional education and certification programs: The management of affordable housing is a specialized business, requiring skills and programmatic knowledge not required of other real estate management professionals. Since the 1970s, NAHMA members have been actively involved in federally regulated housing programs. Managers, developers, owners, and industry stakeholders join NAHMA because it is essential to their business. They rely on NAHMA for representation in Washington, invaluable professional education, information, networking and opportunities for one-on-one dialogue with federal and state agencies impacting the industry.

That’s why the National Affordable Housing Management Association created the Communities of Quality® (COQ) National Recognition and Awards program. When your property meets NAHMA’s high standards in physical maintenance, financial management, programs and services, employee credentials and other criteria, it becomes a member of an elite group.  COQ properties qualify for regional and national awards, a listing in an online registry of the country’s top affordable properties, and the use of COQ marketing materials.

The Vanguard Award celebrates success in the multifamily affordable housing industry by recognizing and benchmarking newly developed or significantly rehabbed affordable multifamily housing communities that showcase high quality design and resourceful financing.  The award –

• Pays tribute to developers of high-quality affordable housing;

• Demonstrates that exceptional new affordable housing is available across the country, and that it is a positive addition to any neighborhood;

• Demonstrates that the affordable multifamily industry must be creative and innovative to create exceptional properties given the financing and other challenges to development;

• Highlights results of private-public partnerships required to develop today’s affordable housing;

• Shares ideas for unique design and financing mechanisms with industry practitioners to further stimulate creative development in the affordable multifamily industry.

The PAHMA Board of Directors is pleased to support the annual Art and Poster Contest sponsored by the National Affordable Housing Management Association (NAHMA). 

The poster contest is open to children and senior residents 55 years or older who live in a community of a NAHMA or a local AHMA member company, as well as residents with special needs who live in a permanent supportive housing community or Section 811 community of a NAHMA or a local AHMA member company.

The underlying message for the annual contest is always a drug-free theme. Still, the association wanted to open the door for more avenues of expression, so a subtheme is incorporated into the poster contest.
